Berlin Airlift
The Berlin Airlift was a joint US, French and British response to the Soviet Berlin Blockade, which terminated all ground travel to East Berlin. Its purpose was to use aircraft through the three air corridors to airdrop supplies to the rapidly starving people, and ranged from the initial 800 tonnes a day to over 8900 tonnes. Soviet forces could not attack the aircraft for fear of declaration of war.
