The Type 59 was a Soviet main battle tank heavily based on the T-54. It was manufactured from 1958 to 1980 and 9500 of them were produced, many of which were used until 2000. Seven variants of the Type 59 were built: the Type 59, Type 59I, Type 59II, Type 59IIA, Type 59D, Type 59P and the Type 59G.
